a) don't used tabbed terminals, it's not effective because there's not as much mouse work as a browser and
b) use screen inside a single putty session to get more functionality. Can't do a split-screen of a tabbed terminal window, can you?

It's supposed to be a parody of Windows 95, which, in what became a pattern for Microsoft, was launched in a massive blaze of publicity, yet still turned out to be quite crap until they spent several years fixing it.
